About the League:

In addition to the traditional Saturday off for Independence Day, there may be one or two “Free Saturdays” during the season, which will be Saturdays with no games in order to accommodate players who would like to have an open Saturday here or there for personal reasons. To maintain the ten-game regular season while having “Free Saturdays”, several game days will feature double-headers as needed. Moody Softball is a co-ed 12″ softball league that plays games from June through August, with playoff games in the last two weekends of August. Games, which are played Saturday mornings, are primarily social and secondarily competitive.Games will likely be played at Clarendon Park on the northeast side of Chicago.

As a player, you are entitled to:

1. fellowship with fellow brothers and sisters in Christ

2. minimum 10 regular season games

3. minimum 1 playoff game

4. team t-shirt with custom uniform number

5. stats tracked

Teams will be formed with a draft. Managers will be able to choose one other player and immediate family memebers to make up their initial roster. All other players will be then picked via draft by the managers (Update : Due to to the sign up situation, we had to revert to a hybrid draft. Othwerwise, there would be no league.)

If you are part of another church that is playing in the Moody Softball League, effort will be made to place you with your church. (Update: you definitely will be placed with your church upon request.)

Philosophy

Moody Softball has three goals:

1. fellowship between members of a team.

2. fellowship between teams

3. meaningful summer athletic competition

Games are primarily social, not primarily competitive. The idea is to play softball with fellow believers from The Moody Church in a stress-free, supportive environment. However, our goal as a fellowship league is not inconsistent with the spirit of competition. As Christians, we are to strive for excellence in everything we do, that we may bring glory to the Lord. Therefore, our league keeps score, publishes standings and statistics, and conducts playoffs. This is important in measuring success and improvement. Furthermore, teamwork and sportsmanship are vital aspects of good competition. All players and coaches are expected to set these examples for anyone who may be watching.
