Championship Saturday Recap

Sunday, August 26, 2018

As always with The Moody Church softball league, it was an exciting weekend for church softball.

8am game: Caravan vs. Dugout Donuts

The Caravan made a strong run against the Donuts only losing by four points. With the win by the Donuts, they advanced to the finals to face the winner of the 9:15 game which was still to be decided.

9:15am game: Sentinels vs. Ospreys

What an exciting game this would turn out to be. THe Ospreys started hot but within a couple innings the Sentinels were able to bring the game to a tie. The Ospreys did not let them get into their heads and continued to get base hits and the win with a final score of 20-14. The Ospreys advanced to the finals for the second year in a row hoping for a different outcome this year.

10:30am Championship Game: Ospreys vs Dugout Donuts

In a rematch of last years semi-finals game, the visiting Ospreys faced off against the big hitting Dugout Donuts. As one could imagine, this game was intense with both teams wanting to leave Clarendon park as champions. The Donuts lost in the finals in 2016, lost to the Ospreys in the semi-finals in 2017, and were now searching for the win in 2018. The Ospreys have been searching for the championship since the team was started by manager Dan Cameron back in 2015 having steadily improved their playoff position each year.

In a back and forth game that saw many balls go soaring over the fence by Donuts slugger Tim Verduin, the Ospreys were able, as they have done all season, to get consistant base hits and, after four years of trying, the Ospreys finally took the Championship win with a final score of 17-15.

What a finish to the 13th season of the Moody Church softball league.

Lord willing, we'll see you next season for more fun in the Son!
